Renowned Kathak exponent Pandit Brijmohan Mishra, popularly known as Pandit Birju Maharaj was felicitated by a team of Akshayam led by its  Secretary Sri Biswajit Bharadwaj and Cultural head Ms Barsha Bhattacharjee  at Pragjyotish Cultural Centre (ITA) Machkhowa, Guwahati on 1st July 2017. Maharaji, a Padma Vibhushan recipient way back in 1986, is in the city to conduct a Kathak workshop organised by his institute Kalashram.

A chess board was also presented to him as a souvenir  by Sri Nandan Buragohain, Secretary of Assam Chess Club, the chess promotion unit of Akshayam.
